Overview

In this senior Operations Manager role, you will lead day-to-day performance of a busy general practice site in Oxfordshire, with accountability for workforce, finances, and compliance. You’ll line-manage the local management team and collaborate with clinical leads, central PML functions, and external partners to drive quality and continuous improvement in a complex primary care setting. This is a strategic, impact-focused position within a not-for-profit NHS provider, offering scope to shape practice operations and patient experience.

Responsibilities

  • Own day-to-day operational performance across all practice functions
  • Direct line management of the practice level management team, including workforce planning and staff development
  • Oversee local financial performance, budget monitoring, and expenditure control
  • Ensure compliance with CQC requirements, NHS contractual obligations, and PML governance standards
  • Drive quality improvement and patient experience initiatives with clinical leads
  • Lead and develop the wider operations team and support professional growth
  • Manage practice-level projects and change programmes linking with PML central functions
  • Sit on the Primary Care Network Board and support PCN colleagues on behalf of the practice
  • Contribute to federation-wide operational development and shared learning

Key requirements

  • Senior management experience in general practice, primary care, or the wider NHS
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary teams including performance, development, and HR processes
  • Budget management and financial oversight in healthcare/public sector
  • Experience working across organizational boundaries with multiple stakeholders
  • Able to lead, motivate, and develop teams under pressure
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with data interpretation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication for senior leadership
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • Confident in handling difficult conversations and conflict
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital tools used in practice management
