Overview

In this role you will lead multi-jurisdictional tax and environmental compliance for a major household brand. You will manage a regional team, align tax policies across five countries, and partner with external advisers to mitigate risk. The role combines VAT and corporate tax stewardship with sustainability reporting, including EPR and PPWR readiness. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to strengthen controls and ensure timely, audit-ready filings. Responsibilities

  • Own the multi-jurisdictional tax compliance calendar (UK, France, Spain, Sweden, Iceland) and ensure deadlines are met
  • Lead and develop in-country VAT specialists, providing guidance and performance oversight
  • Review VAT percentages on new products; train buying staff and minimise VAT liabilities
  • Approve VAT returns, corporate tax workings, and statutory filings across jurisdictions
  • Draft, implement, and maintain regional tax policies and procedures aligning with local rules
  • Act as primary contact for tax authorities; manage enquiries and audits
  • Coordinate with external tax advisers on various matters
  • Support SAO process in the UK with appropriate tax controls and documentation
  • Monitor regulatory changes across jurisdictions and assess impact
  • Lead EPR compliance for Packaging across European markets
  • Gather packaging data with Buying and Operations; improve data quality for EPR reporting
  • Track PPWR developments and prepare for new obligations
  • Prepare and submit EPR returns on time with audit-ready records
  • Internal expert on packaging sustainability; brief senior stakeholders on obligations and risks
  • Drive tax compliance system enhancements and partnerships with other EU countries
  • Collaborate with Legal on contractual/regulatory tax matters
  • Support Finance Director and Payroll/AP on employment taxes
  • Provide updates to Regional Finance Director on risks and regulatory changes

Key requirements

  • Qualified tax professional (CTA, ACA, ACCA, or equivalent) or qualified by experience in a multi-jurisdictional tax role
  • Experience managing indirect tax (VAT) compliance across multiple European jurisdictions
  • Experience managing or coordinating a team
  • Strong knowledge of UK tax compliance (VAT, corporation tax, SAO)
  • Ability to draft tax policies and communicate complex matters to non-specialists
  • Very organized with multiple deadlines across jurisdictions
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and stakeholder relationship abilities
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Familiarity with PPWR or equivalent EU/UK sustainability regulation
  • Experience in large retail/wholesale/FMCG environment an asset
  • Additional European languages (French, Spanish, Swedish) as an asset
