Overview

As a Principal Structural Engineer in our Energy team, you will lead the technical delivery of complex structural projects in hydropower and dam infrastructure. You’ll work with clients and cross‑functional teams to provide innovative, compliant solutions that support the UK’s net zero goals. You will mentor engineers, drive design quality, and contribute to growing our structural capability across sectors. This role offers a chance to shape major energy infrastructure in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment with hybrid working options.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and delivery of structural engineering solutions across the full project lifecycle
• Prepare and review calculations, reports, and design packages for regulatory submission
• Provide technical oversight, mentoring and guidance to engineers and technicians
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders to achieve project outcomes
• Ensure compliance with design standards, legislation and QA processes
• Drive innovation and best practice in structural design and delivery
• Conduct structural inspections and assessments and support asset improvement programmes
• Lead major energy project deliveries and provide technical direction

Key requirements

• BEng or MEng in Civil or Structural Engineering
• Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status or actively pursuing ICE or IStructE
• Strong experience in structural design across infrastructure sectors, with hydropower/dam exposure preferred
• Proficiency in structural analysis, modelling and hand calculations
• Experience leading multidisciplinary project teams and providing technical oversight
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
