Overview

As a Senior Electrical Engineer in our London Mission Critical Facilities team, you will lead the electrical design of data centre projects from high- to low-voltage, advise clients on system options, and ensure cross-disciplinary coordination. You’ll develop concept designs, produce specifications and reports, and oversee installation to meet safety and client requirements. This role combines hands-on engineering with client interaction and global project collaboration, in a fast-paced data centre environment. You’ll contribute to landmark critical facilities and shape engineering solutions for Colocation Providers, End Users, and Enterprises.

Responsibilities

  • Develop conceptual electrical distribution designs from EHV to LV, including HV equipment, generation, UPS, switchgear and monitoring systems
  • Advise clients on electrical systems to meet business needs
  • Lead the design of data centre electrical systems and equipment
  • Produce design development notes and technical specifications compliant with standards
  • Coordinate with Architect and Structural engineers and other disciplines
  • Prepare calculations and tender documentation (technical specs)
  • Monitor installation to ensure compliance with employer requirements and safety codes
  • Engage in client-facing discussions to clarify and agree requirements
  • Work both independently and within the WSP global project team

Key requirements

  • Chartered status with CIBSE or IET (or working towards Chartered status) or equivalent experience
  • Technical knowledge of UK & EU regulations and design guides
  • IT literacy with Trimble (Amtech)
  • Understanding of ETAP for HV modelling
  • Knowledge of Neher-McGrath method for underground cable calculations
  • Awareness of Tier classifications per The Uptime Institute, TIA-942 and EN 50600
  • Team leadership and mentoring abilities
  • Experience with RevitMEP and AutoCAD for project work
  • Electrical design experience in Large Power (11kV) distribution, UPS, standby generation, fire/voice alarm, data centres, lighting, lifts, CHP
