Senior Project Accountant

Overview

In this role you will oversee budgeting, cost analysis, and financial reporting for complex defense projects, supporting timely delivery and compliant cost control. You will collaborate with program and finance teams to ensure accurate forecasting, cost allocation, and earned value management. The position sits within LMUK Strategic Systems, contributing to national-security programmes. You will engage across multiple stakeholders to drive financial discipline and transparent performance metrics.

Responsibilities

• Compile and review budgets using actuals, prior figures, and estimates to control funds and enable proper financial administration
• Coordinate cost analyses, set up cost control systems, collect data, and prepare cost reports
• Ensure costs are allocated according to established procedures
• Support formal reporting to Line of Business for long- and short-term planning
• Analyze financial information and prepare financial reports
• Support project completion on schedule per procedures and work plans
• Perform labour analysis and staffing/demand breakdowns to align staffing with programme needs
• Monitor and track project expenditures and EVM performance, flag issues to the program team
• Conduct month-end tasks (cost transfer journals, accruals, revenue recognition, cash reconciliation)
• Assist invoicing and monthly cost certificates for customer billing
• Conduct risk and opportunity analysis against outputs
• Interact with program and financial management to ensure conformance with processes and procedures

Key requirements

• Professional qualification (finalist or qualified) in CIMA/ACCA/ACA (or equivalent)
• Proven experience in a Project Accounting role
• Strong cost analysis and cost management abilities
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
• Ability to work with minimal direction
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with senior management
• Highly proficient Microsoft Excel modelling skills
