As Commercial Director, you will lead the commercial function for a growing multi-utility contractor, partnering with the board to shape strategy and drive sustainable performance. You will mentor the commercial team, embed governance and risk controls, and ensure timely, profitable project delivery across bids, procurement, and contracts. Responsibilities
- Provide strategic commercial leadership and board support for growth objectives
- Lead and develop the commercial team to drive accountability and continuous improvement
- Drive commercial awareness across operations and wider business
- Implement and enhance processes for bidding, procurement, forecasting, cost control and project reporting
- Ensure strong governance, compliance and risk management across contracts
- Manage NEC contracts and oversee contract administration
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, CVRs, commercial reviews and margin analysis
- Provide real-time visibility of project performance, profitability, opportunities and risks to senior leadership
- Oversee valuations, payments, cash flow, and commercial controls
- Build relationships with strategic suppliers and subcontractors to maximise value and minimise risk
- Develop and optimise ERP and commercial systems for reporting and efficiency
- Support major bids, tenders, growth opportunities and market evaluation
- Present commercial performance and recommendations to the Board
Key requirements
- Commercial leadership experience in utilities, infrastructure, civil engineering or construction
- Experience leading and developing commercial teams
- Subcontractor management, commercial negotiations, procurement and cost control experience
- In-depth understanding of NEC contracts
- Strong commercial acumen with ability to improve profitability and forecasting accuracy
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication with board-level interaction
- Strong analytical, financial and strategic decision-making skills
