Overview

In this role you oversee a small sub-team within the Contract Disputes group, combining technical supervision with light caseload management. You will handle Fast and Intermediate Track disputes, guide junior lawyers, and ensure quality and compliance across the team. The position offers a clear leadership pathway in a collaborative litigation environment. You will work to deliver effective client service and practical legal outcomes, contributing to the department’s performance and service delivery goals.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee technical supervision of a sub-team handling Small Claims, Fast Track and Intermediate Track matters
  • Manage a small caseload of up to 10 consumer and commercial disputes when appropriate
  • Assess prospects of success for consumer and commercial claims
  • Represent claimants and defendants in Fast and Intermediate Track matters, including trial where required
  • Negotiate and litigate claims through Civil Courts
  • Deliver exceptional client service and articulate legal advice
  • Supervise, mentor and develop junior colleagues
  • Ensure quality, consistency and compliance across the team’s caseload
  • Support departmental performance, throughput and service delivery targets

Key requirements

  • Qualified Solicitor (or equivalent)
  • Strong background in Contract Law and Civil Procedure
  • Experience running Fast Track matters independently
  • Previous people management or supervisory experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organized, assertive and customer focused
  • Ability to identify complex issues and propose practical solutions
  • Confident presenting expert legal advice clearly and empathetically
