Overview

As a Senior Electrical Engineer at HDR, you will lead concept through detailed electrical design for Data Centre and Mission Critical facilities, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. You’ll produce complete electrical system designs, ensure quality and regulatory compliance, and drive design reviews and staff development. The role blends technical leadership with project coordination across all design stages, contributing to HDR’s impact-driven, employee-owned culture. You’ll work in a context that values inclusion, safety, and ISO/QA standards, shaping critical infrastructure at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Concept design through to detailed design for electrical systems in Data Centre projects
  • Produce detailed and installation designs for complete electrical systems
  • Ensure technical compliance and quality across design work; run in-house design reviews
  • Motivate and manage staff within the group; set objectives and coach
  • Implement QA systems and procedures on projects
  • Ensure health and safety compliance and CDM regulations; align with ISO 9001 and 14001
  • Coordinate design with other stakeholders and disciplines

Key requirements

  • BEng, MSc or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Building Services or related subject
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in electrical design
  • Experience in electrical design for Data Centres is essential
  • Experience managing electrical design across all design stages
  • Design coordination with stakeholders and multiple disciplines
  • Wide experience of critical electrical systems (MV/LV, standby, UPS, earthing, fire alarm, life safety)
  • Knowledge of system resilience levels; Revit, AutoCAD and 3D coordination
  • Chartered Electrical Engineer (desirable)
