Overview
You will support the risk function to safeguard financial and operational stability by proactively identifying and mitigating risks across business units. You’ll lead risk governance, align policies with regulatory standards, and strengthen controls. Working with stakeholders, you’ll enhance economic crime risk management and contribute to regulatory change initiatives. This role offers impact across the customer lifecycle and a chance to shape risk strategy within a leading financial services group.
Responsibilities
- Develop strategic direction for risk and implement up-to-date methodologies
- Oversee the risk department and performance of risk colleagues
- Manage stakeholder relationships and external services quality
- Ensure adherence to risk policies, standards and robust control environment
- Advise on policy development and operational effectiveness
- Lead teams on complex tasks and set objectives with performance coaching

Key requirements
- Experience in a first-line Economic Crime role with ability to identify, assess, and mitigate financial crime risks
- In-depth knowledge of UK financial crime legislation, regulatory requirements, and best practices
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail in due diligence and onboarding
- Proven ability to produce high-quality written desktop procedures, guidance, and operating standards
- Understanding of AML regulations and JMLSG guidance
- Experience implementing and enhancing risk and control frameworks across the customer lifecycle
- Knowledge of Business Banking products and customer journeys in relation to economic crime risks
- Experience with horizon scanning, regulatory change, policy implementation or control testing
- Recognised financial crime qualification (e.g., ICA AML Diploma, ACAMS) or equivalent
