Overview

In this role you will lead hands-on mechanical design for rugged industrial equipment, guiding concepts through to production Release. You will work within a mechanical team, collaborating with manufacturing, testing and suppliers to deliver robust, manufacturable designs. The position focuses on solving structural, thermal and assembly challenges, with opportunities to influence standards and processes. You will contribute to field deployments and continuous improvement in design practices, making a tangible impact on product realisation and reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Produce detailed mechanical designs, 3D models and drawings using SolidWorks, CATIA or similar
  • Create and maintain BOMs and technical documentation
  • Own design packages from concept to prototype, test and production release
  • Apply DFM/DFA to improve manufacturability and quality
  • Support design reviews, risk assessments and FMEA activities
  • Address structural integrity, thermal management, sealing and assembly challenges
  • Support prototype builds, testing and validation
  • Collaborate with suppliers and cross-functional engineering teams
  • Support commissioning and field deployment when required
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering standards, templates and processes

Key requirements

  • Strong experience with heavy-gauge sheet metal design and construction welding environments
  • Understanding of brake press work, bending constraints, bend relief for low-volume production
  • Practical, hands-on approach; able to work independently and ask constructive questions
  • Note: Automotive body-in-white experience with heavy press tooling is less relevant
  • Independent problem-solver
  • Clear communication and note-taking
  • Proactive, hands-on mindset
  • SolidWorks or CATIA proficiency
  • Experience producing detailed engineering drawings and BOMs
  • Strong understanding of fabrication, machining and manufacturing processes
