Overview
In this role you drive cost management for multi-site property investment programmes in the private sector, focusing on fast-paced retail and corporate fit-outs. You will work within Mace’s consultancy team to deliver cost plans, procurement, and post-contract cost control, shaping cost outcomes across new store projects and refurbishments. You’ll collaborate with clients and design teams to add value and maintain project discipline, contributing to Mace’s growth and reputation in delivering complex property outcomes. This is a hands-on, client-facing role with regional and occasional European travel, offering scope to broaden experience beyond retail.

Responsibilities
- Conduct feasibility studies and benchmarking
- Apply value management at project outset
- Lead cost planning, estimating, and final cost plan ownership
- Manage procurement processes including pre-qualification, enquiries, analysis, selection and contract preparation
- Oversee post-contract cost variances and change control
- Produce and present monthly post-contract cost reports
- Negotiate and agree final accounts
- Act as a key interface with clients and other consultants
- Support marketing and business development within the region
- Maintain knowledge of standard industry contracts and procurement routes
- Assist in developing new business opportunities with existing and new clients
Key requirements
- Experience in a cost consultancy practice with retail clients
- Cost planning, budgeting and estimating experience
- Knowledge of standard industry contract forms and procurement routes
- Highly numerate, accurate, detail-focused
- Strong understanding of industry best practice
- Ability to build strong relationships with clients, design teams and stakeholders
- Willingness to travel occasionally within Europe
- Degree in Quantity Surveying/Cost Management or equivalent
- Professional membership (MRICS/RICS) or working towards
- Effective communication and relationship-building
