Overview

In this Manufacturing Engineer role at Protolabs in Telford, you will design, set up and optimise processes for new products, leading NPI projects and partnering with R&D to stay at the cutting edge. Responsibilities

  • Prepare process designs for new product/process introduction, including jigs, tooling and capital equipment
  • Lead NPI projects to meet all requirements
  • Tender for new equipment balancing quality and cost
  • Collaborate with R&D to stay at the forefront of research
  • Analyse current methods to drive improvements and address quality issues
  • Contribute to factory layout changes to enable capacity increase
  • Serve as go-to technical troubleshooter and advisor
  • Continuously seek workflow and performance improvements
  • Support training with work instructions and materials
  • Work off shift to ensure continuity when implementing new processes
  • Adhere to quality and safety standards and address safety issues promptly
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned
  • Report activities to the department manager

Key requirements

  • Excellent planning and organising capabilities
  • Knowledge of CNC machining / plastic injection moulding / mould making
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Ability to work with all functional work groups
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Independent, dependable, resourceful and self-motivated
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal and written
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Computer literate (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Proven mechanical aptitude
  • Experience with measurement instruments (micrometers, calipers, height gauges)
  • Experience with machinery used in a metalworking shop (Vertical Mills, Lathes, Drills, Grinders)
