Overview
In this Health & Safety Manager role, you own HSE across a growing drylining-focused construction business and help shape its safety culture. You will balance practical on-site leadership with strategic improvements to systems and processes. You’ll engage with project teams, lead investigations, and support senior management to raise safety standards. This hands-on, autonomous position offers variety and real impact on day-to-day safety and company-wide compliance.
Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day HSE across the business and subsidiaries
- Conduct site inspections, audits, and compliance checks with practical guidance for site teams
- Collaborate with Project Managers and site teams to uphold H&S standards across projects
- Review and improve RAMS, risk assessments, COSHH, and related documentation
- Lead and support incident, accident, and near-miss investigations with corrective actions
- Deliver toolbox talks, inductions, and H&S training as needed
- Monitor compliance with legislation, CDM, and client standards
- Support ISO 45001 and broader compliance systems with the Compliance Manager
- Assist with external audits, SSIP, and client H&S audits
- Identify trends and areas for improvement and implement practical solutions
- Promote a positive safety culture and act as the link between office, management, and site crews
Key requirements
- NEBOSH Diploma or NVQ Level 6 in Occupational Health & Safety
- IOSH membership, ideally towards CMIOSH or holding CMIOSH
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a HSE role within construction
- Experience with subcontractors or drylining/firestopping/fit-out advantageous
- Strong knowledge of construction H&S legislation and practical site safety
- Experience in site inspections, audits, investigations, and training
- Confident communicator across operatives to senior management
- Autonomous, proactive, and able to challenge when required
