Overview

As Senior Scientific Editor, you shape the journal’s scientific direction and oversee the peer review process. You work with authors, reviewers, and the editorial team to ensure rigorous, fair evaluation and high-impact content across translational and clinical research. You contribute to editorial strategy, commission front-matter content, and build global scientific networks. The role offers exposure to cross-disciplinary science within a premier open-access journal and opportunities to influence patient care-oriented research. You will engage with the community at conferences and online, driving the journal’s positioning within Cell Press.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and develop high-impact translational and clinical content
  • Evaluate submissions and manage peer review for rigor and timeliness
  • Select and collaborate with expert reviewers
  • Guide authors to provide an excellent author experience
  • Commission and edit Reviews, Perspectives, and other front-matter content
  • Contribute to editorial strategy and journal positioning within Cell Press
  • Build relationships with global scientific and clinical communities
  • Represent the journal at conferences and institutional visits
  • Contribute to digital content, including homepage and social media

Key requirements

  • PhD, MD, or equivalent in a relevant discipline
  • Previous editorial experience
  • Broad interest across translational and clinical research
  • Strong critical thinking and ability to evaluate diverse areas of science
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in international teams
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills
