Overview
In this role you will join WSP’s Major Projects Planning and Development Team in Newcastle to shape planning strategies for landmark social infrastructure projects. You will prepare appraisals, draft planning statements, and lead negotiations with planning authorities within multidisciplinary teams. You will manage project delivery and budgets while developing your expertise toward Chartered status. This is a client-facing, progression-focused opportunity in a respected planning consultancy.

Responsibilities
- Devising planning strategies and assessing site history against planning policies
- Preparing briefing notes on likelihood of securing planning permission
- Drafting clear, persuasive planning statements
- Reviewing third-party documents for consistency and validity
- Assisting with planning aspects in multidisciplinary project teams
- Attending site visits, design team and client meetings
- Managing project delivery and budgetary control
- Leading negotiations with planning authorities and stakeholders
- Collaborating with colleagues across WSP and external organisations
- Monitoring planning applications and responding to consultation feedback
Key requirements
- Degree level qualification in town planning and/or postgraduate qualification in a relevant subject
- Chartered status (MRTPI / MRICS)
- Sound knowledge of the UK planning system gained in local authority or private sector
- Good technical and IT skills
- Commercial approach to planning consultancy
- Desire to work in a growing planning team and be supported by professionals
