Design Engineer

Overview

As a Highway Design Engineer you will lead and deliver a range of highway infrastructure projects within a multidisciplinary consultancy. You will use your technical expertise to design schemes, mentor junior engineers, and coordinate with clients and authorities to meet programme, budget, and quality targets. The role blends hands-on design with people leadership in a collaborative environment. This is an opportunity to shape development schemes and highway improvements within a supportive team. You will work hybrid in Yate/Bristol and contribute to a growing highways practice.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver highway infrastructure projects
• Produce detailed designs using Autodesk Civil 3D
• Lead and mentor junior engineers
• Coordinate with clients, authorities, contractors and stakeholders
• Ensure delivery to programme, budget and quality standards
• Contribute to project planning, technical reviews and design development

Key requirements

• Minimum 7 years’ UK highway design experience
• Strong consultancy background preferred
• Proven track record delivering highway design projects
• Proficient in Autodesk Civil 3D (essential)
• Good understanding of UK highway design standards and approvals
• Ability to work independently while supporting juniors
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• Highway drainage design experience would be advantageous but not essential
