Overview

In this role you will lead the Maintenance Engineering team across two sites to ensure safe, compliant and reliable plant operations. You will drive planning, execution and continuous improvement of maintenance activities, with a strong focus on DSEAR/ATEX compliance and hazardous-area equipment. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to minimise downtime, manage contractors, and uphold safety culture. This is a hands-on leadership position at scale, shaping maintenance strategy and reliability for Scunthorpe’s liquid processing facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the Maintenance Engineering team across two sites to foster high performance and safety-first culture
  • Plan and prioritise planned, preventive, and reactive maintenance; manage workload and cross-site resource allocation
  • Manage CMMS (SHIRE): asset records, work orders and maintenance routines; monitor KPIs and contractor performance
  • Oversee contracts for air compressors, deionised water, and effluent treatment systems
  • Ensure DSEAR/ATEX compliance, hazardous-area inspections and timely non-conformance resolution; maintain documentation
  • Oversee maintenance of semi-automated machinery and process equipment; ensure PUWER-compliant safety systems; support fault-finding
  • Support engineering projects including plant upgrades, automation improvements and hazardous-area remediation; manage specialist contractors
  • Enforce safety and compliance with DSEAR, ATEX, COMAH, PUWER, LOLER, Electricity at Work, Confined Space; promote Permit-to-Work system
  • Identify reliability improvements and cost-saving maintenance opportunities; support continuous improvement initiatives

Key requirements

  • Proven leadership experience in a safety-critical, regulated environment
  • Experience with maintenance planning and asset management in process/industrial settings
  • Strong background in process engineering within bulk liquid handling operations (preferred)
  • Working knowledge of COMAH, DSEAR/ATEX, PUWER, LOLER and related legislation
  • CMMS experience (SHIRE or similar)
  • Understanding of semi-automated/ automated process equipment maintenance and automation upgrades; MOC awareness
  • Budgetary control and project management experience
  • NEBOSH General Certificate and COMPEX Ex01–Ex04 qualification
  • Degree/HND in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical or related)
