As a Senior to Principal Public Transport Planner, you will drive improvements in UK bus services within a key Integrated Transport Planning team. You’ll shape sustainable mobility solutions, working with local authorities and partners to deliver value-for-money public transport networks. Your work includes policy development, franchising and partnership models, and data-driven fare and network design. Responsibilities
- Conduct network reviews to ensure services meet purpose and value
- Develop and refine public transport policies
- Design and implement franchising and partnership models, including Enhanced Partnerships
- Design and evaluate fares and ticketing schemes using big data models
- Support business case development and funding processes (bus franchising, EVs, infrastructure)
- Provide specialist input for new public transport networks (demand forecasting, integration plans, route testing)
- Develop tools to prioritise investment in services and bus infrastructure
Key requirements
- Strong understanding of the UK bus sector, policy and legislation
- Experience in UK bus operations and network planning
- Experience with ticketing and concessionary travel schemes
- Strong data analysis skills and ability to interrogate datasets
- GIS mapping software experience
- Ability to identify network change needs and deliver feasible, affordable solutions
- Excellent report writing and clear communication of findings
- Proven track record in managing sizeable projects to scope and budget
- Experience building and maintaining client relationships and securing new work
- Experience supporting junior staff and working within a team
