Overview
In this role you will support the Design Authority by delivering robust mechanical design and assessment for critical infrastructure. You will work with cross-functional teams to define and verify design packages, safety reviews, and integrity assessments in a nuclear or similarly regulated setting. Your contributions will help ensure safety, reliability, and continued operation of facilities, while shaping practical and cost-effective engineering solutions. Responsibilities
- Specify, produce and assess design packages for infrastructure
- Perform plant walkdowns and deliver Periodic Safety Reviews (PSRs)
- Define reliability and operational constraints for infrastructure
- Assess maintenance work control procedures
- Evaluate infrastructure design, materials state, ageing mechanisms and fitness for service
- Promote and uphold robust safety and security culture
- Act as an intelligent customer to ensure safety-related contracts meet requirements
Key requirements
- Broad engineering experience with design and assessment of EOT cranes and mechanical lifting systems
- Familiarity with LOLER, crane design statements, and lifting equipment regulations
- Experience in nuclear or other highly regulated/high-hazard environments is desirable
- Experience undertaking Periodic Safety Reviews (PSRs) per ONR DNSR Licence/Authorisation Conditions
- Ability to develop practical, innovative, cost-effective engineering solutions for plant modifications
- Understanding of British and international engineering design standards
- Strong analytical skills and evidence-based decision making
- Excellent written and verbal communication and stakeholder engagement
- Strong organisational skills for workload management
- HNC (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline
- Detailed knowledge of mechanical infrastructure design intent in nuclear or similar regulated environments
