Overview

As a Power electronics engineer in ALTEN’s London team, you design and develop electrical and power electronic systems for fuel cell and electrolysis technologies within clean energy projects. You’ll work in a multidisciplinary Systems Engineering group to advance grid-integrated power systems from design through commissioning. The role focuses on electrical architectures, modelling, and validation to support sustainable energy transformation. This is a hands-on, impact-driven opportunity to shape next-generation energy solutions in a global engineering environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop fuel cell and electrolyser stack systems and electrical architectures
  • Create electrical network designs for grid-connected systems across AC/DC networks
  • Perform electrical modelling, power analysis, and feasibility assessments
  • Produce electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and design documentation
  • Review and approve electrical designs and installation activities by contractors and suppliers
  • Provide guidance on electrical design risks and integration challenges
  • Ensure compliance with IEEE, ANSI, IEC, NFPA standards
  • Generate and review interface requirements for system integration and external connections
  • Support installation, commissioning, validation of electrical systems

Key requirements

  • Strong experience in electrical design and power electronics
  • Experience delivering grid connection solutions for power generation or industrial systems
  • Experience with AC and DC distribution systems
  • Knowledge of cable sizing, protection, earthing/grounding design, electrical infrastructure
  • Experience interfacing electrical systems with PLCs, microcontrollers, power converters, and protection systems
  • Understanding of national and international electrical standards and grid connection requirements
  • Proficiency with ETAP, EPLAN, MATLAB or equivalent tools
  • Ability to review electrical drawings, schematics, loads, BoMs, and design documentation
