Overview
In this role, you will lead the design of nuclear and safety-significant ventilation systems within complex, regulated projects. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate ventilation into facility design and support safety cases and verification activities. The position offers opportunities to mentor engineers, manage deliverables, and engage with clients and regulators. You will work in Adelaide on high-stakes environments that require disciplined engineering, innovation, and compliance.

Responsibilities
- Lead design and engineering of nuclear ventilation systems (HVAC, air handling, filtration, ductwork)
- Develop technical specifications, calculations, and design documentation across concept to detailed design
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate ventilation into overall facility design
- Perform airflow modelling, contamination control assessments, and hazard/risk analyses
- Support safety cases, verification & validation, and requirements management for safety-significant systems
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship while managing scope, schedules, resources, and deliverables
- Support commissioning, testing, balancing, containment verification, and client/regulator engagement
Key requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualifications and experience
- Proven experience delivering ventilation/HVAC systems on major infrastructure or highly regulated projects
- Experience in nuclear, defence, pharma, life sciences, or laboratory environments and strong safety culture understanding
- Strong understanding of HVAC/ventilation engineering, airflow management, containment and contamination control
- Experience with specialist ventilation systems (HEPA, radiological or hazardous environments, cleanrooms, controlled environments)
- Knowledge of safety-significant/classified systems, hazard analysis, ALARP, and reliability/maintainability requirements
- Experience with ventilation controls, BMS integration, systems engineering, V&V, and procurement
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management; ability to lead autonomously in a multidisciplinary setting
- Chartered Engineer/CPEng status or commitment to professional registration desirable
- Willingness to learn and work in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment
