Overview

As a Buyer in the NHS, you will provide end-to-end tactical purchasing support across multiple organisations within the Procurement & Supply Chain. You’ll raise requisitions, convert them to orders, manage invoice queries, and source requirements through eProcurement systems, ensuring value for money and compliance with policies. You will help maintain catalogues and identify savings through spend analysis, collaborating with departments and suppliers. This role offers cross-site impact within a supportive, wellbeing-focused trust culture.

Responsibilities

  • Raise requisitions and purchase orders
  • Resolve invoice queries to ensure timely supplier payment
  • Support catalogue updates and maintenance
  • Obtain quotations and negotiate with suppliers for value for money
  • Advise departments on procurement processes, contracts, and best practices
  • Identify savings opportunities via spend analysis
  • Maintain procurement records (Atamis updates)
  • Support wider Procurement team with admin and operational tasks

Key requirements

  • Mathematics and English to NVQ 4 or equivalent
  • Willingness to work towards CIP or equivalent
  • Experience with procure-to-pay systems (e.g., Oracle)
  • Good written and spoken English, clear communication
  • Ability to operate a PC with MS Office and procurement tools
  • Understanding of procurement processes in the public sector
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a large team
  • Organised with strong prioritisation skills
  • UK professional registration (implicit in NHS role)
