Overview
In this Quality Manager role, you will lead the development and implementation of the QMS to ensure high-quality outcomes for a live MOD project at Devonport Royal Dockyard. You will align quality objectives with business goals and manage both internal and external audits, reporting to senior management and clients. You will lead the quality team, drive risk management initiatives, and handle complex issues across cross-functional teams in a secure environment. This is a hands-on opportunity in a challenging defence setting, offering impact through strategic quality improvements and stakeholder collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the quality management system (QMS)
- Set quality objectives aligned with business goals
- Oversee internal and external audits and certification processes
- Manage the quality team, including recruitment, training, and performance
- Handle escalated quality issues and lead cross-functional problem-solving
- Ensure regulatory compliance and adherence to industry standards
- Report quality performance to senior management and clients
- Lead strategic quality improvement and risk management initiatives
- Operate within a live MOD facility; adapt tasks to project needs with training support
Key requirements
- Experience in Quality Engineering and quality management
- Professionally qualified with significant post-qualification experience
- Academic qualifications in Civil Engineering, Quality, or Construction (e.g., HNC, BSc, MSc, BEng, MEng)
- ISO 9001 Lead Auditor training
- IOSH Managing Safely certification
- CSCS – White PQP/AQP and CSCS – Managers cards
- Extensive knowledge of QMS and standards
- Proven leadership and management experience
- Strong strategic planning, decision-making, and communication skills
- Expertise in audit management, compliance, and continuous improvement
