Overview

As a Site Safety Lead, you will partner with site leadership to raise safety and environmental performance across the Portsmouth site. You will drive a positive safety culture, provide expert HSE guidance, and ensure compliance with legislation and standards. You’ll lead investigations, coach teams, and deliver improvements through training and mentoring. The role supports a mission to safeguard lives through responsible, compliant operations and continuous safety improvement. Responsibilities

  • Provide expert HSE guidance to the Site Operations Team and drive improvements to safety culture
  • Partner with site leadership to ensure compliance with legislation, policies, and standards
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders (customers, regulators, professional bodies) to enhance HSE engagement
  • Deliver safety improvements via training, coaching, and competency development for teams
  • Lead and support incident investigations and apply root cause analysis for continuous improvement
  • Monitor HSE performance, conduct audits, support ISO compliance, and track emerging legislation
  • Promote best practices and lead by example to foster a positive safety and environmental culture
  • Support travel to Haslar and other sites as required

Key requirements

  • Strong practical knowledge of Safety Management Systems (ISO 45001) and awareness of ISO 14001
  • Experience leading HSE in operational/engineering/delivery contexts
  • Proven track record of leading change and improving safety performance in complex environments
  • Excellent analytical, coaching, influencing, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication and prioritisation abilities
  • Proactive, solution-focused approach with accident investigation training (root cause analysis)
  • Eligibility for SC clearance (minimum)
