Overview
As a Principal Mechanical Engineer in Stantec’s Energy & Resources, you will help deliver diverse energy projects across the UK, from EfW plants to district heating and hydrogen/Gasification schemes. You’ll guide projects through feasibility, optioneering, and detailed design, collaborating with clients and partners to develop robust, compliant solutions. You’ll lead technical outputs and contribute to safe, high-quality delivery, shaping sustainable energy infrastructure. Responsibilities
- Perform feasibility studies, site surveys and investigations across project options
- Lead optioneering through detailed design and installation stages
- Produce technical specifications across technologies (steam, piping, hydrogen, biomass, EfW)
- Support collaborative design outputs (GA drawings, 3D models, P&ID)
- Create specifications and scoping documents for construction packages
- Review and assess vendor designs and progress
- Communicate technical updates to clients and team members
Key requirements
- Experience in Mechanical Engineering or related field with energy/power or process plant exposure
- Chartered status or working towards chartered status
- Proven ability to produce specifications, reports and technical outputs
- Experience with GA drawings, 3D models, P&ID and broad range of technologies (steam, piping, hydrogen, biomass, EfW)
- Strong communication skills for client and internal stakeholder updates
- Ability to work across project lifecycle and collaborate with cross-functional teams
