Head of Planning (Partner)

Overview

In this role, you will lead and grow the Birmingham planning practice within a nationally regarded law firm. You’ll shape strategy, mentor lawyers, and drive cross‑team collaboration to serve developers, landowners, authorities and investors across the Midlands. Expect autonomy to execute growth plans while strengthening client relationships and expanding the planning offering. This is a partnership-level opportunity with meaningful impact on the firm’s Midlands ambitions.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the Birmingham planning team and practice across the Midlands
• Advise on planning law topics including applications, strategic land, Section 106, highways, CPO, judicial review and regeneration
• Drive business development and cross-referrals with real estate, construction and environmental teams
• Mentor junior lawyers and implement strategic growth plans for the practice
• Build and manage relationships with a diverse client base (developers, landowners, authorities, investors, organisations)
• Shape and grow the planning offering to align with the firm’s Midlands expansion goals
