Overview
In this role you take technical accountability for mechanical and ventilation engineering within a regulated project context. You will provide technical leadership, governance, and assurance across the lifecycle, ensuring safety, compliance and fit-for-purpose outcomes. You will collaborate with project teams, regulators and assurance bodies to address complex issues and drive continuous improvement, all within a culture focused on safety and quality. This is a chance to contribute to high-stakes infrastructure projects in the nuclear/high-hazard domain and shape how engineering decisions are made and validated.
Responsibilities
- Hold full technical accountability for mechanical and ventilation engineering within your area
- Ensure compliance with legislation, standards, and safety requirements
- Establish governance, assurance and verification processes
- Lead multi-disciplinary teams and resolve complex technical issues
- Manage technical risks effectively
- Interface with project teams, regulators and assurance bodies
- Promote a strong safety, quality and compliance culture
Key requirements
- Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
- Chartered Engineer (or equivalent) with a recognised institution
- Able to meet security clearance and site access requirements
- Experience as a Responsible Engineer or technical authority in nuclear/high-hazard environments
- Safety case development, substantiation and regulatory engagement
- Full lifecycle delivery: concept to handover
- Managing deviations, concessions and non-conformances
- Strong understanding of governance, assurance and gated processes
- Contribution to strategic decision-making and continuous improvement
