Overview
As Senior Buyer you will own high-value procurement activities for Power T&D projects in Scotland, driving risk-aware strategies and reporting to senior leadership. You will lead and develop a team of buyers, coordinate with project timelines, and manage supplier relationships to deliver critical infrastructure. Your work shapes procurement for major projects, supporting energy security and net-zero ambitions. This role combines strategic sourcing, negotiation, and cross-functional collaboration to create value.

Responsibilities
- Mentor and develop a team of buyers and junior buyers to foster growth and continuous improvement
- Own high-value, high-risk procurement activities while ensuring policy compliance
- Develop and implement procurement strategies for major projects aligned with objectives and risk appetite
- Oversee procurement schedules and integration with project timelines
- Lead supplier negotiations, evaluations, and risk management for critical contracts
- Manage end-to-end tendering process: ITTs, bid evaluation, contract award
- Ensure subcontractor performance management and escalation of risks
- Prepare and present procurement performance reports to senior leadership
- Provide commercial insights to inform strategic decision making
- Act as procurement representative in project reviews and governance forums
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure timely delivery of materials and services
- Drive continuous improvement in procurement processes using data and feedback
- Resolve complex supplier queries and escalate issues as needed
Key requirements
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Leadership experience with stakeholder management at senior levels
- Presentation skills for procurement insights
- Experience with NEC Subcontract and commercial processes, negotiation and contract management
- Proficiency in e-tendering platforms and procurement tools
- Experience in utilities or construction procurement including materials and subcontractors
- Relevant business degree and MCIPS qualification (or willingness to pursue)
- Willingness to travel within Scotland and UK for supplier visits and meetings
