Principal Electrical Engineer

Overview

As Principal Electrical Engineer, you will lead the electrical design from concept through delivery and own the technical direction of projects. You will manage client relationships, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, and mentor engineers to raise design quality. This role combines technical leadership with hands-on delivery, shaping solutions for diverse building services projects. You will work closely with clients and stakeholders to ensure standards, performance, and value align with project goals.

Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical design and delivery from concept to completion
• Take overall technical ownership of electrical elements
• Coordinate electrical design teams and interfaces with other disciplines
• Develop and review calculations, specifications, drawings, and documentation
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers
• Liaise with clients, contractors, architects and project stakeholders
• Attend design meetings, site visits and project reviews
• Review designs against standards, regulations and client requirements
• Support project planning, resourcing and delivery
• Contribute to development of engineering team and business
• Identify opportunities to improve technical standards and project delivery

Key requirements

• Significant professional experience in electrical building services engineering
• Strong consultancy background with proven project delivery
• Extensive knowledge of electrical building services design and UK standards
• Experience taking technical ownership of projects
• Strong client-facing and communication skills
• Experience mentoring junior and intermediate engineers
• Good commercial awareness and understanding of project delivery
• Strong AutoCAD skills; Revit/BIM experience advantageous
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
• Proactive approach and ability to make technical decisions and provide direction
