Overview
In this role you will safeguard the performance of state-of-the-art automation systems within the Plymouth Mail Centre. You will work closely with engineering leadership to prevent, predict, and resolve issues, enabling continuous, high‑volume parcel sortation. The role supports Royal Mail’s automation transformation and offers opportunities to lead improvement initiatives. You will operate in a 24/7 environment with shift flexibility, contributing to safer, more efficient operations.

Responsibilities
- Perform preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance on automation assets.
- Lead and drive continuous improvement projects from concept to implementation.
- Collaborate with Engineering Manager and team leaders; log faults and produce reports.
- Diagnose and resolve automation breakdowns quickly to minimise downtime.
- Monitor performance and engage with stakeholders to boost output.
- Own Continuous Improvement projects focused on machinery performance in the Hub/Mail Centre.
Key requirements
- Qualified in electrical and mechanical engineering (minimum ONC Electrical Engineering / NVQ Level 3 or equivalent).
- Experience maintaining automation equipment with PLC knowledge preferred.
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation.
- Proactive team player who can also work independently.
- Full manual UK driving licence for travel to other sites.
