Overview
You will support real estate tax transactions within a senior-led team, delivering pragmatic advisory across due diligence, structuring, and ongoing tax matters for a diverse client base. You’ll work on live deals, interact with lawyers and deal teams, and leverage AI-enabled tools to boost research and drafting. The role blends technical tax work with commercial insight, shaping outcomes for cross-border real estate investments. This is a hands-on opportunity to grow technical and advisory capabilities in a collaborative environment.
Responsibilities
- Support tax due diligence on corporate real estate acquisitions, including information requests, document reviews, reports, and coordinating input from specialists
- Support financial due diligence on real estate acquisitions, reviewing management accounts and pricing adjustments
- Assist with tax structuring for acquisitions, refinancing, reorganisations, and disposals, researching technical points and preparing practical reports
- Support clients on related workstreams such as funds flows analysis, financial due diligence, and SPA negotiations
- Assist clients with tax modelling for deal underwriting and evaluation of holding structures (e.g., REITs, Offshore Property Unit Trusts)
- Undertake post-transaction workstreams including treaty relief claims and regime implementations (REITs, Exempt Elected structures)
- Advise landlords and occupiers on real estate lease transactions, including incentives, renewals, dilapidations, and surrenders
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of technical developments and liaise with tax compliance to reflect advice in UK tax returns
- Proactively manage risk, engagement administration, and project financial management (WIP, billing)
- Delegate work and mentor junior team members; support development of junior staff
- Use AI-enabled and other technology tools for research and drafting, with rigorous technical review
Key requirements
- Experience in real estate (or M&A) tax advisory for UK assets and international inbound investment
- Strong tax technical knowledge in UK corporation tax
- Willingness to develop knowledge across other tax specialisms in a real estate context (e.g., SDLT, VAT, CIS, capital allowances)
- Ability to communicate complex technical issues clearly to tax and non-tax specialists
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Outgoing, collaborative, and capable of integrating with a team
- Ability to manage a varied workload under pressure and take ownership of projects
- Demonstrable relationship-building skills across colleagues inside and outside tax teams
- Curious and adaptable about new technologies, with responsible use of AI tools
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- ACA, CTA or equivalent qualification
- Bachelor’s Degree (2.1) or equivalent
