Overview

In this role you will lead and execute power network modelling and design for critical national infrastructure clients in the UK and Ireland. You’ll work with cross-functional teams to model, analyse, and optimise transmission and distribution networks, and to design G99-compliant connections and ANM schemes. You’ll act as a trusted advisor to client senior leadership, shaping solutions from network planning to protection and substation design at 132kV and above.

Responsibilities

  • Network modelling and design using DigSILENT PowerFactory, IPSA, DINIS, PSS-SINCAL and other tools
  • Perform Load Flow, Thermal, Voltage, and Fault Level analyses for DNOs/TSOs and large-scale projects
  • Prepare and approve G99-compliant schemes for EHV/HV connections on behalf of DNOs/TSOs
  • Design and configure Active Network Management (ANM) schemes on platforms such as SGS and ZIV
  • Conduct curtailment analysis for ANM schemes
  • Develop AI/ML-enabled solutions to automate power systems analysis
  • Design and optimise technical and financial modelling for revenue optimisation in power generation
  • Create Load and Generation forecasting methodologies for DNOs, TSOs, and BESS operators
  • Design whole-system flexibility management solutions for distribution networks
  • Engage with client-side network planning, modelling, design, and capital projects as a trusted advisor
  • Perform protection design and substation design at 132kV level

Key requirements

  • Master (ideally) in Power Systems Engineering; PhD preferred; relevant 10+ years’ experience may count with a related Bachelor
  • Proven experience with load flow, thermal and voltage constraint, and fault level analysis in DNO/TSO contexts and large-scale generation projects
  • Specialised experience with UK/Ireland distribution or transmission networks at 132kV+
  • Experience with Power systems modelling tools: DigSILENT PowerFactory, PSS-E, PSS-SINCAL, IPSA
  • Protection design toolset experience
  • Working knowledge of automation and AI solutions for power networks using Python or DigSilent Programming Language
  • Experience on real client projects in Grid Supply Point level substations or protection design
