Overview
In this role, you oversee the day-to-day running of a 4-bed EBD children’s home, ensuring safe, child-centred and therapeutic care. You lead a residential care team, drive regulatory compliance, safeguarding, and quality improvement, and work closely with social care partners to secure positive outcomes for young people. You’ll shape a high-performing, values-led service with strong leadership and measurable impact on education, health, wellbeing and preparation for adulthood. Responsibilities
- Provide effective leadership and management to the residential care team
- Ensure compliance with Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015, Quality Standards, Ofsted, and Statement of Purpose
- Create a stable, child-centred environment where children feel safe
- Maintain safeguarding arrangements and respond to safeguarding concerns
- Lead care planning, risk assessment, and placement matching
- Center care delivery on children’s views and individual needs
- Drive positive outcomes across education, health, wellbeing, independence, and family relations
- Oversee staffing, rotas, on-call, safer recruitment, induction, supervision, and training
- Manage Regulation 44 visits and Regulation 45 Quality of Care Reviews
- Monitor quality indicators, incidents, safeguarding, and outcomes for continuous improvement
- Maintain accurate records and regulatory reporting within timescales
- Build relationships with social workers, placing authorities, families, schools, health professionals, police, and Ofsted
- Manage budget, resources, health and safety, premises, and risks
Key requirements
- Two years’ experience in children’s residential care within the last five years
- At least one year supervising or managing staff in a care environment
- Experience as Registered Manager, Deputy Manager, or senior leader in children’s residential care
- Knowledge of Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015, Quality Standards, and Ofsted requirements
- Strong safeguarding knowledge (child protection, missing-from-care, safeguarding partners)
- Experience with placement matching, care planning, risk management, QA, and service improvement
- Ability to produce high-quality Regulation 45 reports and regulatory notifications
- Excellent communication, organisational, and leadership skills
- Full UK driving licence
- Experience with safer recruitment, supervision, appraisals, and performance management
