Overview

As Senior Design Engineer you will drive technically robust, innovative solutions from concept to delivery within the New Product Development function. You’ll provide technical leadership across projects, shaping design decisions, risk management and IP protection. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine requirements, validate concepts and ensure system performance. This role offers impact across complex machinery programs at a global manufacturing leader and a chance to influence NPD processes. You will work in a dynamic, engineering-focused environment that values rigorous problem-solving and accountability.

Responsibilities

  • Act as Project Design Authority, owning delivery of the complete project technical solution
  • Derive technical requirements from customer needs and product specs
  • Develop and evaluate design concepts to meet functional requirements
  • Document design assumptions, trade-offs and calculations
  • Assess risks and select preferred design solutions
  • Apply FMEA to identify and mitigate technical risks
  • Prepare and present technical reports for gate reviews
  • Create test plans to verify concepts and system performance
  • Identify opportunities to protect design IP
  • Adopt and use NPD processes and tools throughout the project
  • Coordinate with Quality to define component inspection requirements
  • Support Publications in creating manuals, build books and SOPs

Key requirements

  • Degree-level qualification in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience leading or contributing to technical engineering projects
  • Proficient CAD user for models and drawings
  • GD&T principles and standards
  • Knowledge of materials properties and engineering standards
  • Machining methods and manufacturing techniques
  • Experience with high-speed, bespoke or automated machinery (including can making knowledge)
  • BoM/configuration management systems
  • Sensor technologies and solutions
  • Electrical drive and mechanical transmission systems
  • Hydraulics, pneumatics and lubrication systems
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Ability to work across multidisciplinary teams and with external partners
