Overview

In this role you will keep our automation assets performing at peak efficiency within a 24/7 mail hub. You will work with the engineering team to drive reliability improvements and quickly resolve issues that disrupt operations. The position sits at the heart of Royal Mail’s shift toward mechanised parcel sortation, offering scope to shape maintenance strategy and CI initiatives. A strong safety mindset and cross-site collaboration are key to success.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain automation equipment through preventive, predictive and corrective actions
  • Lead continuous improvement projects from concept to implementation
  • Collaborate with the Engineering Manager and leads, logging faults and producing reports
  • Diagnose and resolve automation breakdowns quickly to minimise downtime
  • Monitor performance and coordinate with stakeholders to boost output
  • Own Continuous Improvement initiatives focused on machinery performance at the Hub/Mail Centre

Key requirements

  • Qualified in electrical and mechanical engineering (minimum ONC Electrical Engineering / NVQ Level 3 or equivalent)
  • Experience maintaining automation equipment, ideally with PLC knowledge
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation
  • Proactive team player who can also work independently
  • Full manual UK driving licence for occasional travel to other sites
