In this role you will lead a civil engineering team within Amey’s Consulting Highways, delivering safe, compliant highway structures across the South West and national schemes. You will contribute to option development, design, and construction, while mentoring junior engineers and driving project profitability. You’ll work closely with clients and stakeholders, shaping schemes from feasibility to delivery. Responsibilities
- Lead a team to deliver technically sound engineering solutions meeting standards and client requirements
- Prepare and check designs, calculations, drawings, and scheme documentation to meet quality, cost, and schedule targets
- Supervise and develop junior team members and oversee their deliverables
- Ensure commercial performance by managing budgets and costs for deliverables
- Engage with clients and suppliers, attend progress meetings, and respond to queries
- Contribute to bids and the work-winning process
- Promote effective health and safety practices within the team
Key requirements
- Experience as a Senior Engineer or equivalent in highway structures
- Ability to produce technically sound designs and supervise others
- Experience with health, safety and welfare management (e.g., Amey’s IMS and CDM Regulations)
- Capable of acting as day-to-day engineering contact (e.g., CRE for Network Rail schemes)
- Knowledge of design and specification processes and ability to advise as Design Team Leader
- Proficient with relevant software and analytical tools; strong design check capability
- Strong CDM and risk management understanding; experience in hazard/risk communication
- Supervisory and people-management skills; capable of leading a medium-sized local team
- Incorporated or Chartered status or equivalent (desirable/contract dependent)
