Senior / Principal Electrical Engineer (Building Services)

Overview

In this role you will lead electrical building services design within Arup’s Cardiff Building Engineering team, driving coordinated multi-disciplinary solutions for diverse projects. You’ll guide design delivery from inception to completion, mentor engineers, engage with clients, and steward project resources and budgets. You’ll contribute to Arup’s sustainable, collaborative culture and help push the boundaries of the built environment through innovative electrical design and integration.

Responsibilities

• Lead spatial and technical coordination across disciplines
• Produce engineering designs and specifications for electrical building services
• Supervise multidisciplinary work and mentor junior engineers
• Support multiple design teams and contribute to bids
• Manage project resourcing and commercial performance
• Engage directly with clients and oversee project teams across local, national, and international projects
• Provide technical leadership and coordination with external sub-consultants
• Ensure compliance with sector legislation and emerging trends
• Drive sustainable building design to meet regulatory and voluntary standards
• Support the bid process and contribute to team development and performance

Key requirements

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline; Chartered Engineer status (IET, CIBSE)
• Strong track record in winning and delivering diverse projects
• Technical leadership for multi-disciplinary design teams
• Coordination with external sub-consultants; knowledge of regulatory frameworks
• People management experience across levels; mentoring and professional development
