Senior / Principal Structural Engineer – Building Structures

Overview

Join WSP as a senior/principal engineer in the Building Structures team to lead design from concept to handover on landmark, multi-disciplinary schemes. You will drive technical leadership, collaborate with architects and consultants, and shape innovative, sustainable solutions for projects across sectors. The role combines design ownership, risk management, and client engagement, with opportunities in bids and business development. Responsibilities

• Lead the design process from concept to detailed design and handover
• Provide technical leadership across multi-disciplinary projects and coordinate with architects, engineers and consultants
• Participate in tender bids and contribute to business development
• Agree project fees and manage commercial position; monitor risks and resolve technical issues
• Mentor less experienced team members and provide technical reviews
• Develop sustainable design solutions from site selection to construction
• Provide specialist advice on sustainable design, net zero carbon, MMC & DfMA
• Build strong relationships with internal disciplines, external consultants, stakeholders and clients

Key requirements

• Degree or HNC/HND qualification in a relevant discipline
• Chartered or path to Chartership
• Solid experience in Civil & Structural detailed design
• Strong knowledge of national codes and standards
• Experience with design processes, briefs, and calculations
• Proficiency with structural design software (Tekla Structural Designer, Tedds) and CAD (Revit beneficial)
• Experience working with clients and contractors with diverse objectives
