Overview

In this role you will provide technical leadership across major capital projects within UU Design, shaping water and wastewater infrastructure that serves millions. You’ll influence projects from feasibility to handover, driving innovative and resilient solutions in collaboration with cross-functional teams. You’ll lead engineering outputs, mentor peers, and uphold safety and regulatory standards. The opportunity combines technical excellence with strategic delivery to support a greener, safer North West.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership across a broad portfolio of mechanical projects
  • Lead engineers within the Mechanical Engineering team
  • Deliver studies, investigations, feasibility assessments and detailed designs
  • Support operational teams to improve production efficiency, resilience, and compliance
  • Produce and review engineering calculations, specifications, drawings and documentation
  • Ensure designs comply with legislation, standards, CDM and best practice
  • Build strong relationships with programme managers, engineering teams and external partners
  • Lead and contribute to multidisciplinary project teams and assure technical outputs
  • Support projects through full lifecycle from concept through FEED, detailed design, commissioning and handover
  • Act as role model for engineering excellence, integrity and safety leadership

Key requirements

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) and member of IMechE or equivalent
  • Accredited Mechanical Engineering degree (MEng/MSc) or BEng with equivalent learning
  • Strong technical capability with leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Experience delivering capital projects or strategic programmes in water or similar industries
  • Understanding of whole-life cost optimization
  • Knowledge of CDM regulations and competent designer responsibilities
  • Ability to lead small multidisciplinary teams and manage technical deliverables
  • Full UK Driving Licence
