Overview
In this role you manage the commercial aspects of allocated rail projects from start to final account, driving maximum financial return. You will embed commercial best practice within the project team and oversee cost controls, change implications, and contractual matters. You’ll support procurement to balance safety, timeliness, cost, and quality, and help deliver agreed cash flow and final accounts. This position offers a client-facing perspective on rail projects with emphasis on negotiation and dispute resolution where needed.
Responsibilities
- Provide commercial support and instill best practices across the project team
- Identify and manage time and cost implications of project changes
- Oversee contractual matters and profit delivery through contract understanding
- Develop and facilitate rigorous cost controls and early warning systems
- Support project procurement to meet safety, timeliness, cost, and quality targets
- Ensure contractually agreed cash flow is delivered
- Assist with negotiation and settlement of contractual disputes and final accounts
Key requirements
- Quantity surveying qualification preferred, Accountancy qualification or relevant experience
- Experience with costs systems
- Understanding of rail disciplines and interface management
- Previous construction project experience
- Knowledge of NEC, ICE, MF/1 and JCT contract procedures ideally
- Experience or knowledge of negotiation
- Good Microsoft Word and Excel skills
- Experience working for a contractor in a client-facing environment
