Overview

In this Lead Legal Counsel role, you shape Bumble’s global IP strategy and independently manage high-stakes IP matters across brands, products, and technology. You collaborate with cross-functional teams to enable innovation, ensure rights clearance, and protect our intellectual property, including emerging AI-related questions. You will lead complex enforcement, licensing, and portfolio management while guiding senior stakeholders with pragmatic, commercially-minded advice. Responsibilities

  • Define and execute global IP strategy aligning with business and product priorities
  • Own major IP matters: trademarks, copyright, patents, domain names, trade secrets and digital assets
  • Provide rights-clearance and IP guidance to cross-functional teams from concept to launch
  • Lead complex IP enforcement, dispute management, and evidence handling
  • Draft and negotiate IP licenses, assignments, merchandising, technology agreements, and partnerships
  • Advise on patent strategy, software development, OSS, and AI-related IP questions
  • Support due diligence for partnerships, investments, and acquisitions; develop playbooks and training
  • Provide clear, pragmatic advice to senior stakeholders and adapt to evolving priorities
  • Utilize approved AI tools for research and knowledge management while ensuring accuracy, privacy, and responsible use

Key requirements

  • Qualified solicitor in England and Wales, or equivalent in another European jurisdiction
  • 8+ years of experience in IP, with strong experience in consumer technology or complex businesses
  • Deep IP expertise across trademarks, copyright, licensing, portfolio management, and technology IP
  • Experience advising on software, digital content, AI, and emerging technologies; able to propose practical solutions
  • Strong drafting and negotiation skills for sophisticated IP and technology agreements
  • Collaborative, relationship-builder with senior stakeholders; proactive and accountable
  • Commercial pragmatism with excellent organizational and project-management abilities
