Senior / Principal Design Engineer

Overview

In this role you will lead infrastructure design for highways, drainage, and related development schemes across residential, commercial, and public sector projects. You’ll work within a collaborative team in Bristol, taking a lead on project delivery and client liaison as your experience allows. The role covers feasibility through approvals, shaping technical solutions and ensuring quality across outputs. Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of highways and drainage infrastructure for development schemes
• Produce and review highway designs (S38 / S278) at preliminary and detailed design stages
• Deliver drainage designs (S104 / S98) including surface water, foul drainage and SuDS
• Undertake earthworks and site level design for development projects
• Coordinate with planners, architects, external consultants, and approving authorities
• Support technical delivery from feasibility to detailed design and approvals
• Manage design workflows and ensure quality and efficiency across outputs
• Mentor and support junior engineers and technicians
• Take on increased leadership, client liaison and team development at Principal level

Key requirements

• Strong experience in civil infrastructure design, particularly highways and/or drainage
• Background on UK development infrastructure projects
• Knowledge of relevant design standards, approvals and technical requirements
• Proficiency in Civil 3D, MicroDrainage / InfoDrainage, Causeway Flow, PDS
• Experience producing/coordinating designs for residential, commercial or mixed-use developments
• BEng / MEng in Civil Engineering (or equivalent experience)
