Overview

As Principal Consultant in Regulatory Advice, you lead high-impact regulatory engagements for clients in regulated sectors, shaping strategy, economics, and governance. You’ll mentor and guide teams while driving proposal development and business growth. Your work supports clients across the UK, delivering value through informed decisions and performance improvements. The role blends leadership, technical insight, and cross-team collaboration in a flexible, hybrid context with clear development opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead delivery of regulatory advisory engagements for regulated sectors
  • Provide strategic, economic, and governance advice on regulatory frameworks, price controls, and performance commitments
  • Ensure engagement quality, stakeholder management, and mentorship of junior staff
  • Support development and delivery of programmes, projects, and technical outputs with Client Service and Technical Directors
  • Contribute to business growth through thought leadership and proposal development
  • Demonstrate strong client-facing communication and deliverables suitable for regulators and boards

Key requirements

  • Senior regulatory experience in water/energy sectors
  • Experience with Price Review/revenue-setting processes (AMP cycles, multi-year determinations)
  • Familiarity with assurance standards and three lines of defence (ISAE 3000, audit evidence packs)
  • Knowledge of regulation policy and strategy
  • Knowledge of cost modelling, benchmarking, or business case appraisal
  • Track record of winning work (proposal writing, account development, networking)
  • Excellent written communication and ability to present to regulator/board audiences
  • Strong stakeholder management with senior credibility
  • Proven project leadership (planning, resourcing, risk, delivery deadlines)
  • High analytical capability for interpreting financial/performance data
  • Mentoring and developing talent within the organisation
