Overview

In this role you design electrical systems for energy infrastructure, collaborating with a multidisciplinary Transmission & Distribution team. You will translate client needs into practical MV/LV designs, from substations to protection schemes, contributing to the delivery of complex projects across private, industrial, and renewables sectors. You’ll work with internal and external partners to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient power solutions. Responsibilities

  • Carry out medium voltage and low voltage design work to DNO standards
  • Develop open/closed ring and radial feeder solutions
  • Create intake and distribution substation layouts (MV/LV)
  • Design primary plant and equipment (MV/LV)
  • Produce secondary protection and control diagrams
  • Perform cable sizing, routing, termination drawings (MV/LV)
  • Model electrical systems and earth grids, calculate touch/step/transfer potential
  • Interface designs for SCADA, auxiliary supply and COP metering
  • Propose MV/LV standby/back-up power solutions
  • Prepare technical specifications and support procurement
  • Coordinate with external suppliers and clients
  • Contribute to electrical system studies and MV/LV network modelling
  • Demonstrate arc-flash/blast mitigation understanding
  • Review designs against client scope and participate in design reviews

Key requirements

  • Degree or relevant qualification in Electrical Engineering
  • Knowledge of British and DNO design standards
  • Experience as Trainee/Assistant Electrical Engineer or Graduate Training in Energy/Power sector
  • Understanding of power system fundamentals
