Senior Product Engineer

Overview

In this role you will design and build backend systems and APIs to modernize debt capital markets data. You’ll lead cross-functional projects, mentor teammates, and contribute to proof-of-concept work and feature development. You’ll optimize the codebase, automate where impactful, and collaborate with product and clients to deliver scalable solutions. This is a fast-moving engineering environment that values clear communication and hands-on technical leadership. You’ll help shape a platform powering faster, more informed financial decisions.

Responsibilities

• lead projects by defining systems, building proofs of concept, and delivering new service functionality (APIs, data processing, automation)
• focus on backend services and web app tooling within the 9fin platform
• perform code reviews, mentor junior developers, contribute to early research and new technology decisions
• improve, refactor, and document the codebase for maximum impact
• work across diverse web platforms including data modeling, access control, ML/AI integration, data visualization, and automation
• collaborate with cross-functional teams including financial, legal, and editorial experts
• communicate complex projects to non-technical audiences to keep progress aligned
• support developer experience with automated previews, feature flags, and production-like environments

Key requirements

• experience as a Senior IC Engineer leading system design and infrastructure discussions
• ability to plan and articulate software impact on clients and business goals
• experience designing data flow from storage to API endpoints with validation best practices
• strong Python experience with FastAPI and typing (Pydantic)
• strong API delivery and SOA experience
• proficiency in SQL for data retrieval
• collaborative and effective communicator with cross-functional teams
