In this Lead Engineer role, you guide development of high-power sub-systems within directed energy, translating customer needs into robust solutions. You’ll work closely with customers and partners to shape programmes and mentor early career engineers in a fast-paced environment. You will operate across the full lifecycle, from concept through to demonstration and low-rate production, contributing to impactful defense technologies. Responsibilities
- Act as technical expert guiding development of high-power sub-systems in directed energy
- Build relationships with customers and partners; help define and bid deliverable programmes
- Mentor and develop teams of early career engineers
- Translate customer needs and operational context into robust technical solutions
- Oversee lifecycle execution from concept to demonstration and low-rate production
Key requirements
- Thorough understanding of physics underpinning testing and development of high power systems (power electronics and devices) in directed energy
- Strong grasp of mathematical modelling for design and performance prediction in power electronics, power supplies, high power source design, RF effects, and related manufacturing constraints
- Knowledge of measurement techniques for development and assessment
- Experience progressing from concept through to demonstration and production
- Engineering background with ability to translate customer needs into solutions
