Overview

In this role you lead a Maritime Safety Group within MBDA’s Safety and Reliability Engineering Department to deliver robust safety engineering outputs for multiple weapon system projects. You will mentor a team of safety engineers while directly contributing key safety evidence and analyses. You’ll shape how safety work integrates with systems engineering and certification processes, driving timely, cost-effective, and high-quality safety cases. This position offers leadership impact, cross-functional collaboration, and the chance to influence safety across advanced products.

Responsibilities

  • Lead delivery of Hazard Analyses, Safety Case Reports, and supporting safety evidence across multiple weapon system projects
  • Develop and manage a group of ~10 safety engineers, focusing on staffing, capability growth, and performance
  • Coordinate with design engineers, project controllers, customers and stakeholders to ensure on-time, on-quality safety outputs
  • Ensure integration of safety evaluation processes with systems engineering product certification
  • Contribute to reshaping the department’s safety engineering delivery model and practice
  • Balance time, cost, and evidence sufficiency to construct convincing safety cases

Key requirements

  • Strong systems safety certification background
  • Proven track record as a team leader in multi-disciplinary environments
  • Experience applying UK/International safety and system engineering processes (Def Stan 00-056)
  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills; capable of working in multi-national teams
  • Ability to plan workloads, delegate tasks, and develop others
  • Degree qualified or equivalent (ideally)
  • Willingness to obtain BPSS security checks and meet clearance requirements
