Overview

In this role you shape the strategic direction of Buckinghamshire’s operational estate and lead a team of Asset Managers. You will align asset strategy with Council objectives and drive transformation across a diverse property portfolio. You’ll advise senior officers, identify cost-saving and investment opportunities, and ensure value for money. The role offers leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and meaningful impact on community assets, schools, and office estates.

Responsibilities

  • Shape and deliver the strategic direction of the operational property portfolio in line with corporate objectives
  • Lead, motivate, and develop a team of Asset Managers
  • Oversee management and optimisation of operational assets to ensure value for money
  • Act as principal advisor to senior officers and Council Members on asset management matters
  • Drive identification and delivery of cost-saving, revenue generation, and capital investment opportunities
  • Manage lease events, landlord/tenant matters, and external provider relationships for best value
  • Champion accurate portfolio data, lead validation exercises, and support informed decision-making
  • Support budgeting and act as client lead for property projects and corporate initiatives

Key requirements

  • Strategic leadership experience in operational property portfolio planning
  • Professional qualification as a chartered surveyor and relevant technical expertise
  • Ability to problem solve and build a high-performing team
  • Strong interest in community property and public-sector service
  • Comfort with working autonomously and excellent communication skills
  • Subject matter expertise for stakeholders and awareness of property decision impacts
  • Familiarity with a Corporate Landlord model (desirable)
