Overview
As Bid Manager, you guide qualified opportunities from solution design through to award and handover, shaping content and winning proposals. You will lead bid writing, manage timelines, and mentor a junior bid team member, collaborating with finance and operations. The role sits at the heart of the sales cycle and offers hands-on content creation, pricing, and client-facing collaboration. Responsibilities
- Own qualified opportunities and develop costed, deliverable solutions
- Translate tender specs into detailed proposals with cross-functional input
- Create competitive pricing models and commercial proposals for sign-off
- Lead bid writing and proposal management for assigned opportunities
- Manage bid plans, timelines, and cross-functional input
- Maintain a library of reusable bid content (case studies, CVs, method statements)
- Oversee multiple bids at different pipeline stages under tight deadlines
- Support bid/no bid decisions and maintain CRM/pipeline records
- Manage portal-based tender activity and formal submissions
- Represent the business in client meetings during the bid process
- Support handover of awarded contracts into delivery
- Mentor junior bid team member
- Line management responsibility for a junior bid team member
Key requirements
- Proven track record as a Bid Manager with full bid lifecycle experience
- Strong independent bid writing skills
- Experience of solution design in a services or project-driven environment
- Strong commercial acumen including pricing, margins, and risk
- Experience managing multiple bids to tight deadlines
- Solid experience with formal tender and procurement processes and e-tendering platforms
- Strong project management and organisational skills
- Experience mentoring junior colleagues
- High IT literacy including Microsoft Office, CRM systems, and document collaboration tools
