Overview

In this role you will deliver bat ecology expertise across diverse UK projects, supporting mitigation licensing and surveys. You join a collaborative Ecology and Biodiversity team within a global sustainability consultancy known for its skilled, cross-disciplinary approach. You will lead field surveys, data management and technical reporting on large-scale projects in power, minerals, and the built environment. Responsibilities

  • Conduct a range of bat surveys (Daytime Walkover, PRA, dusk/dawn surveys, backtracking, hibernation surveys)
  • Record and manage survey data using in-house apps and automation tools
  • Complete BER site registrations, EPSL licensing and mitigation works
  • Analyse bat data and contribute to technical reports and mitigation designs
  • Supervise mitigation works and implement method statements
  • Prepare and lead on EPSL and bat mitigation strategies for diverse sites (infrastructure, power, renewables)
  • Provide bat expertise to multidisciplinary project teams and liaise with clients/regulators
  • Mentor junior ecologists and support knowledge transfer across the UK teams
  • Possibly manage staff and coordinate with cross-functional teams (planning, landscape, hydrology, noise, air)
  • Travel across the UK or overseas as needed
  • Liaise with stakeholders and regulatory bodies as required

Key requirements

  • Natural England Class 2 bat licence or above
  • Experience with bat surveys, licensing, mitigation and supervision
  • Bat Earned Recognition (Level 1–3) or eligible to be BER accredited
  • BSc Ecology, Biological Science, Zoology or equivalent; MSc desirable
  • CIEEM membership (level dependent on grade)
  • Understanding of UK ecological legislation and policy
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Project management experience (planning, budgeting, client liaison) desirable
  • Proactive learning mindset

  • Client liaison and stakeholder engagement
  • Bat survey techniques (PRA, day/night surveys, GLTA, radiotracking)
  • Data management and analysis of bat data
  • BER registrations and EPSL processes
